The other is bio-disintegrable materials, such as blends of starch and polyethylene, whose decomposition is mainly due to the destruction of additives and weakening of the polymer chain, so that the molecular weight of the polymer is degraded to the extent that microorganisms can digest it, and finally decomposed into Carbon dioxide (CO2) and water.

Semi-biodegradable plastics currently mainly include starch-modified polyethylene PE, polypropylene PP, polyvinyl chloride PVC, polystyrene PS, polycarbonate PC, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene ABS, triphenyl phosphate TPE, etc. . Studies have shown that starch-based biodegradable plastics enter landfills without exposure to sunlight for biodegradation. Anaerobic decomposition through anaerobic digestion by methanogens changes its pH, percent dry solids, and volatile solids, and finally decomposes into carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4).
